6. And Above all, what might any of this say about the existing political and religious relationship in India
Some excerpts from the article
1. Chalukyas were destroyed by Rajendra 1, the Chola empire's king (1012-1044) (after destroying its temples) and stealing/taking some state idols such as statue of Durga . The Tamil inscription at the bottom of the statue says so.
2. In 642 A.D, Pallava King Narasimhavarman 1, Looted the statue of Ganesha from the Chalukyan capital of Vatapi.
3. 50 years later Chalukyas invaded Hindu North India and brought with them idols of Ganga and yamuna
4. In the 8th century Bengali troops sought revenge on King Lalitaditya by destroying the idol of their God Vishnu Vaikuntha - the state diety of Lalitaditya Kingdom
5. The Pandyan king Srimara Srivallabha invaded Sri Lanka and looted back the Buddah idol desecrating the temples in sri lanka
6. In the late 11th century The Kashmiri Hindu king, King harsha even raised the plundering and destroying of temples as a national institute code of activities
7. In the early 13th century, Hindu Kings of the Parama dynasty attacked and plundered the Jain temples in Gujrat
8. This pattern continued even after the Ottomon or turkish rule in India wherein Hindu kings such as in the 1460's Kapilendra the founder of Suryavamshi Gajapati dynasty in Orrisa sacked both Saiva and Vaishnava temples in the kaveri delta in the course of wars of conquests he carried out in the Tamil Nadu region.
9. In the earlier tenth century , the Rashtrakuta king Indra III not only destroyed the temple of Kalapriya (at kalpa near the Yamuna) but reports show that he also took special delight in noting down these events of destroying temples
