Islamic upbringing vs western upbringing
-----------------
ابدأ بمن تعول: أمك وأباك وأختك وأخاك ثم أدناك أدناك
Taariq Al-Muhaarbi narrated as Marfu` (i.e via the prophet who said): “Begin with spending on those for whom you are responsible: your mother, your father, your sister, your brother and then who is near to you in order of relationship.

Lessons
-------
1. In Islam a son is by default obliged to take care of his parents so much so that the messenger of Allah (sallalahu `alayhi wa sallam) said that the son and his earning is of the parents. Compare this with the western habit and culture and how they treat their parents right from when they start earning. In Arab and eastern (Indo pak bangladesh indonesian brunei and malaysian) lands - Muslims are raised with this notion since childhood that the son is responsible for his parents and other dependants.
2) This is also one of the reasons why the inheritance share is more for the male than the female because the males are by default given a bigger responsibility to attend to
3) This is obviously the case when they need support and not in situations when your parents or sibblings are millionares or have enough sources to live properly and healthly
4) This is yet another hadeeth from the other numerous one's that shows the superior position of a mother. Unlike the vast majority of western culture, the Muslims don't leave the houses at the age of 18 or send a christmas card once a year or not know who their father was. Offence is not intended here but simple truth.
