ACCUSING A CHASTE WOMAN WITHOUT PROOF IS ONE OF THE MAJOR SINS

The Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) explained the seven sins that are the seven major sins that could lead one to hell  and one of them he said was "....and slandering chaste, innocent women.”

[Ref: Saheeh Bukhaari and Muslim]

SOME LESSONS

Accusing a chaste woman, who is known for her piety or there is no evidence to accuse her of a bad character , or adultery and likewise then this constitutes among the seven major sin. Notice that even though slandering any one falsely is a major sin, but in this particular narration the prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not single out a man for this.

Such that anyone accusing a woman falsely will recieve lashes so that he never dares to repeat that sin, nor take it lightly next time, and as an admonishment to the society that the honour of a woman is not a game to play with , and if someone dares to attempt he will be dealt with harshly . For details see the narration stating : (2369) - (وروى عن ابن مسعود أنه قال: " لا حد إلا فى اثنتين: قذف محصنة , أو نفى رجل عن أبيه ". and refer other islamic books on this topic.

This is also emphasized because we Muslims consider women to be our gems, and the respect of our families, thus maligning or bad mouthing our women folk is taken serious offence even in various cultures today such as that of India , Pakistan, Bangladesh, Indonesia, Middle east and Parts of Africa.
