Question and Answer Series - Part 4

Before you proceed please read :

In this we aim to post questions asked by Non Muslims during processions like street daw`ah and other instances when the time is short and the answer to be given has to be catchy and striking so as to both answer the question as well as grasp the attention of the non Muslim .

We fully acknowledge that many questions , rather all of them have alternate answers which could be very lengthy and sometimes need more than a verse or hadeeth to explain fully. However this is an initiative wherein we will try our best to keep the answers in line with the Qur`an and sunnah upon the understanding of the righteous predeceesors and also keep it short so as to help our brothers on street to be quick in answering. If you have any suggestions or constructive criticms then they are most welcome.  These Questions are mainly picked up from personal experiences in dealing with Non Muslims  and the nature of the questions can be from political to religious and you'll be amazed with the kind of questions some non Muslims ask. it is as if they are well versed with many other topics and thus they wanted more of a fatwa than a challenge. Also,  it is the responsibility of the da`ee to convey the answers or use them to his advantage. we will only give you a chalkline , the rest is upto you .

Table of Contents of Part 4 of the Question and Answer series

Question 26 : Are Muslims commanded to hate every kaafir unconditionally?

Question 27 : So, since you say Islam has a solution in every circle of life, what about the employee and employer relation. Give me an example of How Islam makes things better for a labourer or an employee ?

Question 28 – So tell us, 5 examples of how Islam would help protect or preserve the environment?

Question 26 : Are Muslims commanded to hate every kaafir unconditionally?

Answer : the answer to this is very lengthy for it contains explanation of different situations and circumstances to first explain what this hatred mean and then what it entails and most importantly when and to whom is it applied. Nevertheless, keeping the theme of street daw`ah in mind one of the  shortest answer to this would be the verses :

Allah does not forbid you to deal justly and kindly with those who fought not against you on account of religion and did not drive you out of your homes. Verily, Allah loves those who deal with equity. It is only as regards those who fought against you on account of religion, and have driven you out of your homes, and helped to drive you out, that Allah forbids you to befriend them. And whosoever will befriend them, then such are the wrongdoers. [60: 8-9]

Question 27 : So, since you say Islam has a solution in every circle of life, what about the employee and employer relation. Give me an example of How Islam makes things better for a labourer or an employee ?

Answer :  There are a lot of things that Islam offers and regulates for this field of business and trade so much so that we have volumes, but since you asked for an example here is one of the wisdoms our prophet sallalahu `alayhi wa sallam taught us

" مِنْ أَعْظَمِ الذُّنُوبِ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ.
وَرَجُلٌ اسْتَعْمَلَ رَجُلا فَذَهَبَ بِأُجْرَتِه.

The greatest of sins near Allah are of …….And a man who employs someone to have his work done and does not pay him his wages

[Ref: Mustadrak al-Haakim Vol 3, Page 538; Sunan al-Kubra lil Bayhaqi 13330, Hasan]

He peace and blessings be upon him also commanded

أَعْطُوا الأَجِيرَ أَجْرَهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَجِفَّ عَرَقُهُ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

“Give the worker his wages before his sweat dries.”

[Ref: Sunan ibn Maajah, Book 16, Hadith 2537, Saheeh]

At the same time the prophet sallalahu `alayhi wa sallam is very balanced and as islam legislates that no one is burdened more than what it can bear so the prophet peace and blessings be upon him also said :

Delay (in the payment of debt) on the part of a rich man is injustice….

[Ref: Sahih Muslim 1564 a]

"The Messenger of Allah sallalahu `alayhi wa sallam also said: 'if one who can afford it (yet) delays repayment, his honor and punishment become permissible."'

[Ref:  Sunan an-Nasa'i 4689]

Al-Manawi rahimahullah said in Fayd al-Qadeer :

It is haraam to delay and postpone when one is able to pay. The command to give it to him before his sweat dries is a metaphor for the obligation to pay him as soon as the job is done, even if he does not sweat, or if he sweated and it has dried. End quote.

Question 28 – So tell us, 5 examples of how Islam would help protect or preserve the environment?

Answer :   Unlike other religions, Islam teaches us many things which United nations merely copies and labels as it’s own initiative. For example the prohibition of wasting water even if you had an abundant supply of it , let alone start a campaign when you run out of water

Abdullah ibn Amr reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, passed by Sa’d while he was performing ablution. The Prophet said, “What is this extravagance?” Sa’d said, “Is there extravagance with water in ablution?” The Prophet said, “Yes, even if you were on the banks of a flowing river”

[Ref: Sunan ibn Majah 425]

So as we read, the Prophet peace and blessings be upon him said that we should avoid extravagance even if we had a lot of water in our disposal and thus not waste it by giving the example of a flourishing water stream

You can see the Australian bottle of water also being labelled with this :

Second example is about plantation and encouraging afforestation and greenery

The prophet peace and blessings be upon him said : If a Muslim plants a tree or sows seeds, and then a bird, or a person or an animal eats from it, it is regarded as a charitable gift (sadaqah) for him."

[Ref: Saheeh al-Bukhaari]

Third example – Keep the public places clean and avoid harming them

I did indeed hear the Messenger of Allah say: 'Beware of the three things which provoke curses: Relieving oneself in watering places, in places of shade  (which the people use for shade ) and in the middle of the street.'"

[Ref: Sunan ibn Maajah and in other books of Hadeeth]

Fourth Example – cleaning the roadways or pathways

The prophet sallalahu `alayhi wa sallam said : "Removing harmful things from the road is an act of charity (sadaqah).

[Ref: Books of sunan and saheeh]

Fifth Example  - Wild life preservation

Whoever kills a sparrow or anything bigger than that without a just cause, Allah will hold him accountable on the Day of Judgment."

In fact Islam is the ONLY religion to give more animal rights than any other civilization or religion ever !
