PEARLS OF WISDOM FROM THE PROPHET SERIES - PART 2

Download this article in PDF : https://www.mediafire.com/?bcfi2avxg061tl8

We have started this series as an effort to awaken and help Muslims realize that the very peers they cheer and idealize for various "wisdom filled" quotations were preceded by someone they ought to adore and love more than their own selves. Prophet Muhammad may allah exalt his mention taught us innumerable pearls of wisdom , such that even if one-quarter of it were applied today, it would transform the society into an ideal one.

Muslims should learn the blessed and wisdom filled teachings of their Prophet;  so not only would they cherish the gift Allah graced them with but also use it in daw`ah to help convey and illuminate the hearts of Non Muslims showing them the justice, the wisdom and much more which our Prophet came with. I personally believe and always say : " Let the article speak for itself" and with this in the Name of Allah i begin enlisting the Pearls of wisdom of our prophet which are not only vital for our society but also equally important for us to achieve inner peace and ultimate salvation. Bear in Mind all of this is 14 centuries old.

PEARLS OF WISDOM 11 – SHARING AND DIVIDING THE FOOD WHEN NEED BE

Abu Moosa al-Ash’ari reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) said (encouraging us),  “When the Ash’ariyoon [a tribe from Yemen] run short of food during an expedition or when they are at home in Al-Madinah, they gather all the provisions they have in a single sheet and then divide it equally among themselves. They are of me and I am of them.”

[Ref: al-Bukhari and Muslim]

PEARLS OF WISDOM 12 – MANNER OF KNOCKING ON SOMEONE'S DOOR

Abdullah ibn Bishr radhiallahu `anhu narrates, I heard Rasool Allah (sallalahu `alayhi wa sallam) saying : “ Do not stand (directly) in front of the doors of houses, but (rather) stand on either side of the door to seek permission [1]. If you are permitted, enter into the house, otherwise return

[Ref: Majma az-zawaid and Tabraani; Shaykh Al-Albaanee (may Allah have mercy upon him) said about this hadeeth, "It was recorded by At-Tabaraanee in 'Al-Kabeer' from different routes of transmission and one of them is good."  See "Saheeh ut-Targheeb wat-Tarheeb," #2731. Benefited from authentic hadeeth of the day page]

[1]  By Allah, this is what most of the Muslims where I have brought up with do and in fact anyone with manners does this for it is not appropriate to stand right in front of the door because when someone opens the door, it may be that his womenfolk, or relatives or anyone might be sitting there in a condition which they wouldn’t want a stranger or non mehram to see , or perhaps they are eating and it would be uncomfortable for someone to open the door and the first thing we know is that we end up staring or glancing at them or their food or etc. Thus this pearl from the prophet (sallalahu `alayhi wa sallam) is something to adopt not only by Muslims but anyone who wants to be modest and mannerly.

PEARLS OF WISDOM 13 – THE PROPHET WOULD TURN COMPLETELY TOWARDS THE ONE HE WAS TALKING TO

It is known that the prophet sallalahu `alayhi wa sallam is a role model for us Muslims and one such action out of the many which is now widely taught in programmes and books teaching people how to behave and communicate with each other, is something which our prophet taught us way back

He used to face the person completely whom he was talking and you will see how this good manner , underestimated by millions, is one of the main contents taught in any book, seminar of human or social communication tutorials.

PEARLS OF WISDOM # 14 – DO NOT DISPLAY SATISFACTION AT SOMEONE ELSES MISFORTUNE

The Prophet (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said, “Do not show joy at the misfortune of your brother, lest Allah has mercy on him and afflicts you with (that or some other) misfortune.” [Tirmidhi – Hasan hadith]

In fact it is a famous tradition from the prophet (s.a.w) that he said : “ Love for the people what you love for yourself’ and in other words : “ Treat the people as you would want to be treated”

PEARLS OF WISDOM # 15 – DO NOT DECIEVE THE CUSTOMERS OR PEOPLE IN THE MARKET

Narrated: Abu Huraira The Prophet (sallalahu `alayhi wa sallam) said, " Do not practice Najsh (i.e. Do not offer a high price for a thing which you do not want to buy, in order to deceive the people). [1]

[Ref: Saheeh al-Bukhaari, chapter 52, hadeeth 899]

[1] the most well known example is the auction. The sellers have their own agents or stooges in the crowd often bidding a higher price so as to raise the value of that item in the eyes of other bidders and force them or psychologically convince them of paying more

Likewise is the way of cheaters in every day markets be it cloth merchants or what have you

PEARLS OF WISDOM 16 – DO NOT CUT OFF EACH OTHER UNJUSTLY

No Muslim should offer more for a thing already bought by his Muslim brother (so as to cut him off of that thing and have it for himself instead)
 [Ref: Saheeh al-Bukhaari, chapter 52, hadeeth 899]

PEARLS OF WISDOM 17 – IF SOMEONE HAS BEEN ENGAGED A WOMAN DO NOT CAUSE DISSENTBETWEN THEM AND THEIR FAMILIES BY TRYING TO BREAK THE ENGAGEMENT

No muslim  should  demand the hand of a girl already engaged to another Muslim.
[Ref: Saheeh al-Bukhaari, chapter 52, hadeeth 899]

Note: this engagement here is not referring to the western copied engagement ceremony Muslims now have begun celebrating. this engagement is the same as a wedding proposal instead

PEARLS OF WISDOM 18 – DO NOT BREAK HOUSES FOR PERSONAL GAINS

A Muslim woman shall not try to bring about The divorce of her sister (i.e. another Muslim woman) in order to take her place herself."

[Ref: Saheeh al-Bukhaari, chapter 52, hadeeth 899]

PEARLS OF WISDOM 19 – DO NOT TAKE BACK YOUR GIFT

Someone who takes back his gift is like someone who eats his vomit.

[Ref: Al-Arba'een, Shaah Wali Allaah ad-Dehlavi, ad-Daylami, al-Musnad, 3:73 (hadith no. 3930). See also al-Munaawi, Kunz al-Haqaa'iq, 1:373]

PEARLS OF WISDOM 20 – PAY THE WAGES BEFORE HIS SWEAT DRIES

" مِنْ أَعْظَمِ الذُّنُوبِ عِنْدَ اللَّهِ.
وَرَجُلٌ اسْتَعْمَلَ رَجُلا فَذَهَبَ بِأُجْرَتِه.

The greatest of sins near Allah are of …….And a man who employs someone to have his work done and does not pay him his wages

[Ref: Mustadrak al-Haakim Vol 3, Page 538; Sunan al-Kubra lil Bayhaqi 13330, Hasan]

He peace and blessings be upon him also commanded

أَعْطُوا الأَجِيرَ أَجْرَهُ قَبْلَ أَنْ يَجِفَّ عَرَقُهُ ‏"‏ ‏.‏

“Give the worker his wages before his sweat dries.”

[Ref: Sunan ibn Maajah, Book 16, Hadith 2537, Saheeh]

At the same time the prophet sallalahu `alayhi wa sallam is very balanced and as islam
legislates that no one is burdened more than what it can bear so the prophet peace and blessings be upon him also said :

Delay (in the payment of debt) on the part of a rich man is injustice….

[Ref: Sahih Muslim 1564 a]

"The Messenger of Allah sallalahu `alayhi wa sallam also said: 'if one who can afford it (yet) delays repayment, his honor and punishment become permissible."'

[Ref:  Sunan an-Nasa'i 4689]

Al-Manawi rahimahullah said in Fayd al-Qadeer :

It is haraam to delay and postpone when one is able to pay. The command to give it to him before his sweat dries is a metaphor for the obligation to pay him as soon as the job is done, even if he does not sweat, or if he sweated and it has dried. End quote.
